"Up North"

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Last weekend, Matt and I loaded up the Saturn and traveled up north to his Aunt Betty and Uncle Randy's house in the woods near Pickerel, WI. This was our 2nd annual trip up there and it was quite the little getaway!

Day One: Thursday, July 31st
We headed out to dinner on beautiful Lake Lucerne
The view we were able to enjoy as we ate. Papa Steve, Matt and Travis take a better look at the lake.
Mama Jeno also wanted a better view.
Matt tried to scare Jeano by throwing a huge rock in the water near her - it didn't work.
Our ride home was very entertaining! We played "Name that Tune" all the way.
Jeano takes "Name that Tune" very seriously!
Travis was a little weirded out by the behavior of the "adults" in the car.

Randy was sick of playing "Name that Tune" and begged to hear "Do the Hustle". We cranked the music up and danced to it all the way home.

Day Two: Friday, August 1st

It started out as a rainy day. Luckily Steve came prepared! The rain couldn't stop us from taking on the biggest adventure any one of us has ever completed - White Water RAFTING!Off we go! It was Matt, me, Ryan, Brad, Travis, Steve, Jean, Betty and Randy. The ambiguously gay trio! :)
Matthew and I in a quiet moment.Betty and RandyRyan, Travis and BradBetty and Randy on the left, Steve and Jean on the right. Ahhh....what a calm, relaxing experience!"Anybody see my baseball?"I was very relieved that things were so peaceful and calm! I mean, why the hell would we have to wear these helmets and life vests? To make us look like iddiots? And then came the rapids...I believe this is right before Matt and I got stuck on the wrong side of the falls, pulled ourselves over to the right side and Matt almost "got his legs ripped off!"
These falls were the ones that nearly took my father-in-law's life. Never had I heard so much screaming, anger, agony and swearing - from Jeano!!
Jeano and Steve post rafting - happy to be alive.
Matt relaxes his legs after nearly losing them.
Randy recounts the adventure to all who weren't there.
Uncle Gary is impressed that Matt and I were the only ones that didn't end up in the drink.
Emma - the chiweinerwa.
Emma gave me my much needed dog fix since I was away from my Stanny.
Bradley finally surfaces after a much needed nap.
Campfire time!
Matthew and me happy to be on a mini-vacation
Doing what he does best!
Grampa Zank looking wise.
Granny knows she could've kicked those rapids asses if wasn't for her cane!
Steve and Jeano down the SoCo and Coke.
I also was downing drinks and getting crazy.
Bradley and I had dueling cameras.
Day 3: August 2nd

After a morning of golfing, Matt shoots hoops with Nick.
Nick really did give him a run for his money!
This is Sadie the Puggle. She was cute.
Matt holds onto Harley - the 3rd doggy we got to hang with.
Harley likes to get around.
The massive bruise I incurred on the rafting trip the previous day. This came as a result of my husband jabbing his paddle directly into my flesh. Yikes!
We also ended up gambling and sitting by the fire this night as well - unfortunately I was suddenly struck by illness and was no longer interested in taking pics as I was suffering from headaches, coughing, nausea and a sore throat. It got worse the next day (Sunday) on the way home when I developed a fever along with it. For those of you wondering, I'm still suffering with this awful cold. Weird how it came out of nowhere!
